Conveyor Belt Adjustment and Repair

The infeed and transfer belts carry product into the wrapping area. When a belt drifts, slips or wears, product timing suffers first — and the machine's registration and sealing pay for it downstream.

Problem

A belt runs toward one side of its frame, product spacing becomes uneven at the transfer, or the belt surface is glazed and lets product slip. Operators may also hear slapping or rubbing as a drifted belt contacts its edge guides.

Possible Causes

  1. Rollers are out of square with the frame, pulling the belt to one side.
  2. Belt tension is below the documented setting, allowing slip and glazing.
  3. Product residue on rollers or the belt surface changes friction and tracking.
  4. The belt itself is worn, stretched or edge-damaged beyond adjustment.
  5. Guide rails contact the belt edge, mimicking a tracking fault.

What to Check

  • STEP 1Observe the drift at low speed.Watch which side the belt moves to and where it first leaves center — the fault sits at or just before that point.
  • STEP 2Lock out and inspect the rollers.Confirm rollers are square to the frame, free of wound-on debris, and rotate smoothly.
  • STEP 3Verify belt tension.Compare against the setting documented in your machine manual — tighter is not better.
  • STEP 4Clean belt and roller surfaces.Remove product residue with cleaning materials approved in the manual; glazing that survives cleaning is a replacement signal.
  • STEP 5Re-run and re-check tracking.Adjust in small increments and verify at production speed, not only at creep speed.

Corrective Actions

  • Square rollers and set tension to the documented values, then record the correction.
  • Keep belt surfaces on the daily cleaning routine — most "tracking" faults start as contamination.
  • Replace belts that remain drifted or glazed after cleaning and correct tension; order via the spare parts request form with photos and part numbers.
  • Track corrections per belt position — repeated drift at the same location indicates a worn roller or guide.
When to Contact Technical Support

Contact Path Pack when a belt cannot be made to track with square rollers, correct tension and a clean surface, when a new belt drifts immediately, or when the fault affects product timing into the sealing area.
