Calibrating Your Machine
Calibration means confirming that what the machine produces matches what the recipe says it produces — and correcting the difference when it appears. Drift is continuous and cumulative, so calibration is a routine, not a one-time event.
Before You Begin
Work with the qualified recipe for the current product and film loaded, at reduced speed, on sample product. Acceptance tolerances come from your quality specification and machine manual — never from generic numbers.
Calibration Round, Step by Step
- STEP 1Run samples at reduced speed. You should see consecutive packages produced cleanly at creep speed with the loaded recipe active.
- STEP 2Measure finished pack length. You should see the measured length match the recipe value within your quality specification — record the measurement either way.
- STEP 3Check cut position relative to the seal. You should see the cut land centered on the end seal on every sample, not drifting between packages.
- STEP 4Check seal placement on the product. You should see the seals sit where the format requires — not creeping toward the product or leaving excess film on one side.
- STEP 5Correct recipe values first, mechanics second. You should see length and position errors disappear after recipe correction — only adjust mechanics when recipe correction cannot close the gap.
- STEP 6Re-run and re-measure.You should see the correction hold over a longer sample run at production speed, not just at test speed.
- STEP 7Save the verified recipe. You should see the corrected values stored under the product's name — never left as unsaved edits.
When to Calibrate
- Quick verification at every run start — length, cut and seal placement on the first samples.
- After any maintenance on belts, chains, sensors or heaters.
- After every product or film changeover.
- Whenever measured output stops matching the recipe — that gap is the definition of calibration drift.
Technical Note
This page deliberately publishes no numeric tolerances. Acceptance values belong to your quality specification and your machine manual — Path Pack supports specific values per machine on request.
