Low Speed or Output
The machine cannot reach the output the application was delivered for, or sustainable speed has fallen below what it used to be. The honest reference is always the recipe's verified baseline — not a brochure figure, and not memory.
Problem
Operators report the line "cannot run as fast as before" or that the target rate produces quality faults. The machine may hold the set speed with quality loss, or trip repeatedly when pushed. Output records show a gap between expected and actual packages per shift.
Possible Causes
- Product feed cannot supply the target rate — the machine is starving, not slow.
- Film faults (tracking, tension, registration) trigger micro-stops that eat output.
- Seal quality degrades at speed, forcing operators to run slower to keep packages acceptable.
- Wear items — slipping feed rollers, relaxed belts — deliver less than the recipe assumes.
- The recipe was never qualified at target speed with the current product and film.
What to Check
- STEP 1Compare against the verified baseline. You should see the current sustainable speed set against the recipe's qualified value — the gap, if any, defines the problem.
- STEP 2Watch where the rhythm breaks. You should see whether stoppages come from feeding, film faults, or quality-driven speed reductions — each points to a different system.
- STEP 3Audit the stop log.You should see which faults recur at speed — recurring film or registration faults are the usual hidden tax on output.
- STEP 4Check the feeding supply. You should see product arriving evenly at full rate — a starved infeed caps output before the machine is ever the limit.
- STEP 5Inspect the wear items. You should see belts and feed rollers within the manual's wear criteria — slip at speed is invisible at creep speed.
Corrective Actions
- Re-qualify speed with the current product and film using the step-by-step walk in Configuring Speed and Output — the proven ceiling is the honest speed.
- Fix upstream faults first: output lost to film or feeding faults returns when those faults close.
- Replace wear items found outside criteria, then re-run the qualification walk.
- Keep output records per shift — trends separate a real decline from a bad shift.
Contact Path Pack when the qualified speed ceiling sits below the rate the application requires, when output declines despite verified film, feeding and wear items, or when the gap appeared after a mechanical or parameter intervention. Include machine model, serial number, product and film specification, and the output record.
